BALOCHISTAN-A DIFFICULT FLASHPOINT

My solidarity with Baloch brothers. More of our own when we say vasudev kutumbam- the world is one family.
I will concentrate on difficulties in making Balochistan (occupied by Pakistan ) a flashpoint in the world game.
For Indians a little brief on Who Baloch Are?
Baloch, or Balochistan may refer to:
Balauch consist of many tribes, their tradition and commonly values are similar. They have united civilaizal society and they speak common language which is called Balouchi. Distributed among Iran, Afghanistan and primarily Pakistan.
Balochistan covers nearly half of Pakistan by geographical area, is the only mineral rich and gas-rich region in Pakistan & currently constitutes only 6-7% of population of Pakistan.
Current crisis?
Baluchistan as a nation sees itself as independent from 1410 and was granted Independence before British India in 1947. After partition Jinnah forced Baluchistan's leader the Khan of kalat to sign instrument of surrender. As mass protests erupted by August 1948, Pakistan had arrested major baloch leaders, declared ethinic parties illegal and placed it's army on suppression of a state with no arms to resist.
Current situation:
Baloch people don't identify themselves with pakistan- many have taken refugees in West and protesting for a free land. Pakistan doesn't allow( outsiders, it's own media and Internet) in Baluchistan.
It's alleged that 25000 people have been killed by Pak army by kill n dump policy. The education of baloch is nonexistent with 70-80% illetrate. Health and human rights find no mention in media as Baluchistan is kept under darkness of pak's own media. From reports and interviews of refugees, baloch live in temporary settlements in country side constantly shifting to avoid confrontation. Baloch movement is one of the least covered HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION ISSUE where crimes are monstorous. Wish Baloch issue finds voice in World media as compared to non-issues lik Kashmir and Gaza.
PROBLEMS WITH MAKING BALOCH A FLASHPOINT:-

  • Balochistan is not geographically connected with India(only regional country which can stand up to the issue) Nor does baloch people are refugees on India making it a non-political issue in regional circles.
  • Balochistan's neighbours Iran is in direct conflict with baloch people who blame it for oppression n occupation. Afganistan has no voice as it is a weak country. Iran's support is detrimental to directly increase the gravity of the issue.
  • Baloch people have been geographically dispersed in Pakistan from Sindh to Punjab to pashtun with sparse populations spread all over a large balochistan.
  • Baloch parties are currently supporting pakistan's political setup and a portion of baloch are engaged in army and services, breaking the momentum of a united balochistan.
  • Unlike Bangladesh, balochistan will never be a direct issue in India and war is imaginary provided Pakistan attempts a nuclear showdown.
  • India can lobby for balochistan's in West and UN but will have to risk analogy with Kashmir atleast on paper
  • Balochistan's population is too few that even pakistan's stationed troops look large so if India attempts global outrage more pick and kill may follow.
  • Western powers will not make balochistan's a flashpoint unless mass exodus type human rights violation issues come to fore. Geographically isolated this seems impossible.
  • Nd many other issues lik without much support baloch are not funded lik Palestine, contested by any nation or have mass refugee numbers to flaunt.

Way-Ahead:
It is a very tough game to play but to start with - India can help by playing the master with no hands in blood. Let the West pressurise Pakistan n Saudi by lobbying discretely. Pressurise Iran to set its baloch happy n raise voice against Pakistan's oppression. Facilitate refugee exodus to West to gain attention.
It will be better if any expert or diplomat researches carefully detailing what India can do but certainly India can achieve more by taming the Masters who hold Pakistan's neck rather than directly confronting in bilateral discussions.
My prayers for Balochistan!
Jai-Hind!

THE INDO-PAK SERIES

4/13/2017 Jeerwah, Kashmir “A perfect sunny day” thought captain sandeep as he yawned his sleep out. The warming sun is always a delight among the living in the chilly heaven on earth. It was a polling day - a bye election & captain along with his 30 men were to protect and assist 12 men and 3 women officers of election commision with the process. The captain was watching birds chirp in the orchards dotting the valley when a nearby mosque submitted to Azaan. Allah hu Ak’bar ….. “Sasyakaal Sirji, the civilian officers have set up the campus” hawaldar Rampal “Good we should expect heavy polling today. Afterall shiekh has been roaring against AFSPA” Rampal nods. A fear clearly reflects his thoughts. “ Don’t worry, they all do it for money. If we remove AFSPA, Shiekh will be running to delhi.” The captain signalled to get ready and left for an inspection of local mood. Kashmir is a complex place today. Locals smile and greet ‘salaam walaikum’ even to soldiers
